Richard Belfonti
Co-Chairman of the Board

Until his passing in 2007, Richard Belfonti served as Co-Chairman of the Board for the Belfonti Companies. He was instrumental in creating and implementing long-term strategies and overseeing strategic goals and objectives for the various Belfonti Companies. Richard was also involved in the day-to-day management of the assets in the CT portfolio. He had been with the Belfonti Companies since 1990.

Prior to joining the Belfonti Companies, Richard taught in both the New Haven and North Branford public school systems. He also served as a school principal, first at the Stanley T. Williams School in North Branford and then later at the Jerome Harrison School in North Branford. The teachers who were fortunate enough to work under his leadership all remember him as a man who invested all of his energy and love into each and every staff member and student.

Richard attended grammar school at Saint Anthony’s in New Haven, CT, where he also served for several years as an altar boy. He was a member of the very first graduating class (the class of 1950) at Notre Dame High School in West Haven. After high school, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree at Southern Connecticut State University and then went on to the University of Connecticut, where he earned a Master’s Degree and 6th Year in Administration.

Richard was known by his many friends and colleagues as a dedicated and caring man, one always ready with a warm smile, a friendly joke, and a listening ear. Richard was a member of the Marchegian Society, the Lions Club, and the New Haven County Retired Teachers Association. Throughout the years he also remained a faithful supporter of Notre Dame High School, his alma mater, creating a scholarship there (the Richard Belfonti Endowment Fund) designed to help deserving young students further their education.

Thank you for your many gifts, Richard. Your unique humor and love for life will remain with us forever.
